The history of the Word Search puzzle can be traced back to 1968 when the first puzzle was published in the Selenby Digest by Norman Gibat of Oklahoma. The game's popularity grew, and was picked up by the national newspapers. It was placed as an accompaniment to the crossword which had a proven following since the notoriously difficult Times crossword which made its debut in 1930. The word search puzzle has also been referred to as the Word Seek, Word Find, Mystery Word and Word Sleuth. Like a whole host of traditional games like Blackjack, the transition to the Internet has allowed for a new audience to be reached by yet another medium.
